Hormones Make Me SING!
July 20, 2007 by lisaheidrich
Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them,
and a voice from the cloud said,
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Hormones MAKE me SING!!
“Happy Birthday to YOU, Happy Birthday to YOU, Happy Birthday DEAR Matthew, happy birthday to you! “
(OK, so I am not a good singer)
Today I had the great honor of celebrating my firstborn’s birthday, he turned 20.
It seems like yesterday I can remember the joy and excitement as I called ALL my family promptly at 6 AM from my hospital phone.
The nurse just brought in my precious baby boy, donning a blue cradle cap, and striped blue blanket and I was savoring our FIRST time together! I recall feeling the softness of that blanket and the warmth of new born skin.
I am NOT a morning person, I barely function before noon…but this day, July 19, 1987, was so endearing and full of EXCITEMENT–I did not care about the time I was calling anyone.
Mostly those who spent the day and night in the hospital during my labor, pacing and wondering were most probably just getting settled for some much needed shut eye.
6AM is an early wake UP, from an endless night on a maternity floor but not one person I called to share my excitement was upset.
They could hear the complete JOY and love in my voice about my new baby son.
Today I felt that same excitement.
After singing the “HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG”, a man’s voice on the other end said; “THANK YOU MOM”, with a manly chuckle.
WHO is this awesome man?
My sweet baby boy and what a MAN he is!
I am so proud the Lord would honor me with such a son… a man of integrity, character, direction and dedication to the Lord.
HE is an awesome KID–(I mean man!!)
His voice is now deep matching his passion and concern for others.
His heart is true.
He is all grown up now….
Moving out on his own this summer to the University Of Georgia and living independently. (woof! woof! Bulldogs !!)
As a Mother I will miss him.
As a MOTHER I know it’s time to let him go.
As a MOTHER I am so proud of his accomplishments!!
A full tuition scholarship, maintaining the Dean’s List and working full time.
AMAZING isn’t a BIG enough word to describe my son.
In Matthew Chapter 17–God speaks about His SON.
God is our Ultimate and Divine Father.
HE opened the clouds to send down HIS message of praise to His son Jesus.
I can understand how He felt, I feel so blessed and well pleased with mine.
I had to refrain from telling everyone we saw and passed by today:
“THIS IS MY SON.”
Although the staff at Olive Garden were informed
(and they sing poorly too & not even in English!).
Matthew is gracious, he never forgets to say “THANK YOU.”
He appreciates people for who they are, and loves them for who they are not.
He is wise beyond his years sharing his sage advice sparingly, only when asked.
He is a gentleman and scholar and leads with a strong but gentle force.
He understands others shortcomings and gives huge amounts of grace.
He is handsome. Very handsome!
He knows that He cannot change other’s hearts but by prayer HE submits these requests to the ONE who will.
For years I have shared a Poem with Matthew by Kipling not a Christian author. But an English literary master who was raised in a Christian home, but at the age of 17 left his family and turned his back on God.
My Matthew has had his challenges too but has always come back to Christ.
For this I am thankful.
I share the poem “IF” with you today Matt, just as a reminder of all you have accomplished in your earthly journey…you are way beyond the words penned here…for you are committed to bigger and the best WORDS of GOD.

I love that poem! Especially the last stanza.
I have one year left with my son before he goes off to college.
Thank you for reminding me of a powerful poem I could share with him.
